You've probably heard; you need a list to start your Christmas shopping; that isn't true. You don't need 'a' list to start your shopping you need several lists including a budget or holiday spending plan. Start out with your shopping basics; a budget and a list of all the people you need to buy gifts for. A holiday shopping budget doesn't give you a total of how much money you have to blow on gifts, a real budget will tell you how much you plan on spending on each gift and on each person.

Once you're done making this detailed budget, take in to account whose gift you'll have to ship/ deliver and which ones are going local. Once you know which gifts will have to be shipped, you can adjust the cost of the gift accordingly.

Is there anything that you can buy online and save yourself the trouble (and time) of shopping in store, if yes then go for it. You'll find just as good deals online as you will in stores. Sometimes online deals are actually better than the in store deals.

Instead of buying candles, ornaments and ceramic angels and adding them to Christmas stockings for the family across the street, try giving a gift that involves less effort but will cost you roughly the same. Christmas gift baskets are a great gift to send to families, for close family members, fresh fruit arrangements and fruit bouquets are a nice indulgent alternative.

Have you ever wrapped all your presents only to realize at the end that you don't know which is which? Never start wrapping without a marker and a card. You can keep gifts sorted by the color of the wrapping paper or the ribbon you use. All gifts for your daughter can have a golden bow and all gifts for your husband can have a holly green bow on it.

Christmas fruit baskets, make your Christmas special.
